about

Karman is now gearing up to release his most personal album to date, the acoustic-based Spiral Again. It is a more homespun and intimate affair than its predecessors, four and a half years in the making. Stripped of its defenses, the lean tracks were crafted between the full blown orchestral album sessions. It isn’t quite a folk album, and certainly isn’t a rock album. More like the lovechild of Leonard Cohen and Brian Eno or the space rock equivalent to Springsteen’s Nebraska. Some songs eschew verses and choruses altogether, creating ethereal vignettes which emphasize mood over structure.

“I have a tendency to spin out mentally and ruminate over things,” Karman explains. “Spiral Again is really my attempt at capturing the feeling I get, alone in the middle of the night. There’s an air of mystery, sadness, longing and tinge of joy. It’s a fairly indescribable moment that I feel I was able to tap and sustain for an entire record.” Indeed, the songs on Spiral Again tap into the current cultural zeitgeist, telling of a world that is unrecognizable, and the futile process of waiting for it to return to normalcy when old methods of coping no longer make sense.

Historian Los Angeles, California

HISTORIAN is the brainchild of Chris Karman. Somewhere between post-rock and Kid A. It's spacey rock that won't leave you with that awkward feeling of visiting an abstract art installation you just don't get. He writes songs that have mass appeal with a nod to the avant-garde. ... more
